Pets are welcome in our holiday cottages!

You are welcome to bring your pets with you on holiday provided we know in advance. The cost for each pet is €25 per stay.

Pet rules

We have four essential rules that we apply to pets staying with us for practical and safety reasons:

  • Pets are not to be left unattended in the gite unless in a travel crate or similar
  • Owners must clean up after their pets
  • Pets are not allowed in the pool area for everyone's safety
  • Pets are not allowed on furniture or beds as we often have guests with allergies

For the first rule, many of our guests bring their own travel box for their pet to stay in inside the gîte but we also have a 30inch (76cm) by 23inch (57cm) croft travelling-crate with a closing door that is available for hire at 5 euros per week. You would need your own bedding to go inside but then you can leave your dog unattended either inside or outside the gite as you wish.

Pets travel scheme

If you are travelling from the UK we can advise and help you with the PETS travel scheme as we have dogs of our own which travel regularly between France and the UK.

We can also liaise with our local vets to arrange the treatment required before you leave for home. However, please remember it is VERY important to plan this in advance as the regulations insist that your channel crossing leaves between 24 and 120 hours after the treatment has been given.

The up to date regulations on bringing pets to and from Europe are kept on the DEFRA website, briefly this requires that:

At least a month before your holiday

  • Your pet has been fitted with a microchip
  • Your pet has been vaccinated against rabies
  • Your pet's microchip number and vaccination have been recorded on an appropriate document - in the case of Europe this is usually a 'pet passport'.
  • There is no longer a need for your pet to have a blood test, but you cannot take your pet to France (or any other EU country) until 21 days have passed after the completion of the rabies vaccination.

While you are in France

  • While you are on holiday, we can arrange for your pet to be treated against tapeworm (dogs only) and for the necessary documents to be completed.
  • This treatment must be completed not less than 24 hours before you check in for your journey home, and not more than 120 hours before you leave France.

In April 2016 French Property News magazine featured us in an article on pet friendly holidays

We were very pleased to be approached for the article by a magazine of the stature of FPN as we know that there are hundreds if not thousands of properties that could have been featured.

The article was compiled by the team at French Connections which is one of the internet advertising sites that we use (please see their link in our footer below).

Our full-page feature is shown below, please click on the image if you would like to read the full three-page article.

Don't cook your pet

We are proud to support the "Don't cook your dog" campaign - Many pets die each year when they are accidentally left in cars. Studies have shown that in our area in direct sun the temperature inside a car can reach 50C within FIFTEEN minutes, and that is WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN. Please, if you are bringing your pet to France, plan this in advance and NEVER be tempted to leave them in the car in direct sunlight, no matter how short you think this will be. Most shops and restaurants in France understand this and are happy for you to take your pet inside with you, at the very least you will be able to leave them tied up outside.
