In comparison to Scotland or the South of Spain, the Ariege is not the first place that comes to mind when you think of heading off for a round. However, if you are planning a holiday in the Pyrenees then there are a few courses where you can indulge yourself while enjoying everything else that the mountains have to offer.

Local courses

Golf club de l'Ariége - La Bastide de Sérou (40 Mins)

This is a specialist club offering a choice of 6 holes (par 20 pitch and putt), or 18 holes (5970m, par 71). It has by far the best views from its position 500m high in the foothills, but the course itself is not the most challenging.

The on course professional is available for lessons, and golf carts are available for hire.

More details are available on their website La Bastide de Sérou (in English and French). This site has a photo and graphical illustration of each of the holes, with distances and a one line 'pro's advice' comment.

Domaine d'Auriac - Carcassonne (45 mins from us)

This four star hotel has an 18 hole (5758m) golf course just five minutes from the old city of Carcassonne, and is the most popular in the area.

The hotel website (in English and French) has some photos of the course, but no additional detail.

La Barouge - Mazamet (1 hour)

Open since 1956, and in the foot of the black mountains, this is a mature par 70 (5635m) course in a lovely location. See their website for details including some photos and a plan of the course.

Golf de Font Romeu (2 hours)

A 9 hole, 2235m course, open only during the peak Summer months.

Toulouse (90 minutes)

There are also two golf courses in Toulouse itself, although we have no direct experience of these.
